Password Protect a PDF
Encrypt a document with a password, without sharing either one.
Uploading a document to a website to encrypt it — and typing the password into the same website — undoes the point of encrypting it. Here the encryption is performed by code running in your tab: your PDF is read locally, an encrypted copy is built in memory, and the password is never transmitted or stored. Set an open password and optionally restrict printing and copying.
Drop a PDF to protect
Your document and your password both stay on this device.
Files stay on this device — nothing is uploaded.
Processing Happens in Your Browser
Processing happens locally on your device. Your file does not need to be uploaded to our processing server.
How it works
- 1
Add the PDF
Drop in the document you want to secure.
- 2
Set a password
Choose the password readers will need to open the file.
- 3
Set permissions
Optionally block printing, copying or modification.
- 4
Download
Save the encrypted copy. Your original is untouched.
Features and benefits
AES-256 encryption
Strong, standard encryption readable by current PDF applications.
Password never transmitted
It is used in memory and discarded when the tab closes.
Permission controls
Restrict printing, copying and editing alongside the open password.
Works offline
No connection is needed for the encryption itself.
Supported formats and limits
Any unencrypted PDF as input; output uses AES-256 encryption supported by current PDF readers.
Everything runs inside your browser tab, so the practical ceiling is your device's available memory rather than an upload limit. Documents up to roughly 100 MB work comfortably on a modern laptop; very large files are best handled a few at a time, and closing the tab clears all of it instantly.
